Reward Max · Use case
Grow your program through the people already in it
Referral rewards let existing members earn when they bring a new partner, tradesperson or customer into the program. In LoyaltyBoard a referral bonus can be credited when the referred member enrols and completes KYC, and members redeem it from the Reward Max catalogue.

The idea
Why referrals work in channel and trade programs
Tradespeople and retailers know others in their trade. An electrician who finds a program useful will mention it to the electricians he works with; a retailer will tell nearby shops. A referral reward turns that word of mouth into a measurable way to grow the program.
Referred members often join with more trust than those reached by a campaign, because someone they know has already used the program. That can make them easier to activate after enrolment.
Referrals are a supplement, not a replacement, for enrolment through your field team, QR codes and WhatsApp. They work best once a program has a base of active, satisfied members.
They also reach places your field team visits less often. A tradesperson who works across several towns may refer peers your reps have never met, extending the program's reach without extra visits.
How it works
How a referral reward works
Rewards only after the new member is real and verified.
- 1Refer
Member invites a peer
An existing member refers someone in their trade.
- 2Enrol
Peer joins
The new member enrols by QR code, WhatsApp, app or field rep.
- 3Verify
KYC completed
The new member completes Digital KYC (Growth plan).
- 4Reward
Bonus credited
The referrer's bonus points are credited and can be redeemed.
Designing it
How to design a referral scheme that brings real members
Reward verified members, not sign-ups. Crediting the bonus only after the referred member completes KYC stops fake accounts being created just to collect referral points.
Consider a second step. Some programs pay part of the bonus at verification and part when the new member makes their first scan or claim. That rewards referrers for bringing in active members, not just names.
Set limits that fit your channel. A cap on referral bonuses per member per month keeps the scheme from being gamed, and clear rules — published in the member's language — prevent disputes.
Make referring easy. A member should be able to share an invitation from the app or on WhatsApp in a couple of taps, and see when a referral has been verified and the bonus credited. Visibility of progress keeps referrers motivated.
- Credit bonuses after KYC, not at sign-up
- Optionally pay part on the new member's first activity
- Cap referral bonuses per member per period
- Publish the rules in the member's language
Protection
Keeping referrals honest
Referral schemes attract misuse if they aren't designed carefully.
Digital KYC
Each referred member is a verified person before bonuses count.
AI checks
Duplicate accounts, shared devices and velocity abuse are flagged.
Rules and caps
Scheme rules limit how many referral bonuses can be earned.
Measuring it
What to measure in a referral scheme
Track how many referred members complete KYC, how many become active, and how their activity compares with members enrolled in other ways. If referred members rarely become active, adjust the scheme so more of the bonus depends on activity.
Watch for clusters — many referrals from one member in a short period, or referred accounts that share devices or locations. AI anomaly detection helps surface these patterns for review.
Referral rewards count towards a recipient's yearly total for TDS like any business reward. Under Section 393 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (formerly Section 194R), TDS at 10% applies to the full value once the year's total exceeds ₹20,000; Reward Max tracks and deducts it. Confirm specifics with your tax adviser.

How do you stop fake referrals?
Digital KYC verifies each new member, and AI flags duplicate accounts, shared devices and velocity abuse.
Can part of the bonus depend on activity?
Yes. You can design the scheme so part of the reward depends on the new member's first scan or claim.
What can members redeem referral points for?
Anything in the Reward Max catalogue of 10,000+ rewards, including UPI and bank transfers.
Is Digital KYC included in every plan?
Digital KYC is available from the Growth plan.
