The basics

What is a QR code loyalty program?

A QR code loyalty program rewards people for buying or using a product by putting a unique, scannable code on the product, its pack or point-of-sale material. When a retailer, tradesperson or consumer scans the code with a phone, the program checks that the code is genuine and unused, and credits points to that member's account.

For a manufacturer, the code does two jobs at once. It gives the member an instant reason to choose your product over another on the same shelf, and it tells you who bought or installed the product, where and when. In most Indian categories that information is otherwise lost somewhere between the distributor and the final buyer.

QR programs work for very different members. Retailers can earn on packs they sell, electricians and plumbers on products they fit, and consumers on packs they buy. On LoyaltyBoard, each member type can have its own earning rules, tiers and rewards for the same scan.

Scanning is one of several ways to earn on LoyaltyBoard. Members can also earn on purchase uploads, invoices verified by OCR, visit check-ins and API-triggered events, so a QR program can sit alongside the rest of your channel scheme rather than replace it.

Rules by member type

Retailers, electricians and consumers can earn differently for the same product.

Add scratch cards, spin wheels, streaks and leaderboards to each scan.

Best practices

How to run a QR program members keep using

The programs that last make the first scan easy and the hundredth scan worth doing. Members should be able to join in a minute — by QR code, WhatsApp, the app or through your field rep — and see points land the moment they scan. After that, tiers, streaks and occasional instant-win games give regular scanners a reason to keep going.

Plan for misuse from day one. Unique codes, Digital KYC before redemption and automated checks for duplicate scans and unusual activity protect the budget without slowing down honest members. Decide in advance what happens when something is flagged, and who reviews it.

Finally, treat the scan data as an asset. Look at it by region, product and member type every month, and adjust earning rates and schemes where scans are falling.

  • Keep enrolment to one short step, with KYC before the first redemption
  • Credit points instantly so members see the reward
  • Set different rules for retailers, tradespeople and consumers
  • Include cash rewards such as bank transfers in the catalogue
  • Review scans by region and product every month

FAQs

QR code loyalty program FAQs

What is a QR code loyalty program?

A QR code loyalty program puts a scannable code on your product or pack. When a retailer, tradesperson or consumer scans it, they earn points that can be redeemed for rewards — and the brand learns who bought or used the product.

How do you stop fake or duplicate scans?

Members complete Digital KYC before redeeming, and AI flags duplicate claims, unusual redemption speed, device fingerprints and location anomalies before any reward is paid.

Do members need to download an app?

No. Members can enrol and receive point alerts on WhatsApp, or be enrolled by your field rep. A branded member app is available for scanning and browsing rewards.

Can retailers and electricians earn different points for the same product?

Yes. Each member type, region or product can have its own earning rules, tiers and reward catalogue.

Can members earn without a QR code?

Yes. LoyaltyBoard also credits points on purchase uploads, OCR-verified invoices, visit check-ins and API-triggered events.

Are QR loyalty rewards subject to TDS?

Business rewards above ₹20,000 per recipient per year can attract TDS under Section 194R. Reward Max calculates and deducts it automatically.

Where can QR codes be printed?

On products, packs, labels or point-of-sale material — wherever the member will see them at the moment of purchase or installation.

Can a QR program run alongside our channel schemes?

Yes. Scans can feed the same tiers, leaderboards and schemes as invoice and purchase-based earning, so one program covers every way members earn.
